I’ve spent a lot of time over the past 15 years working with about a dozen non-profits…

I’m now most focused on issues that affect my own family, especially future grand kids. These issues are global problems, created by us, which means we can solve them. But every day we wait, we make this task harder.

In my opinion, 350.org gets the most bang for the buck in terms of building awareness and affecting change.

About The 350 Colorado World Environmental Day  Campaign

In honor of World Environmental Day on June 5th, 350 Colorado is holding a “MONEY BOMB” to raise funds needed to make our work possible as we do our part locally to solve the global climate crisis through: Movement Building, Opposing Extreme Energy, and Promoting Local Solutions.

Here are a Few of Our 2015 Initiatives:

– Providing support, tools, and training to 10 local 350 teams across the state in an effort to build a powerful statewide network

– Creating awareness and providing opportunities for public engagement via teach-ins, film screenings, workshops, rallies, marches, press conferences and other educational events

– Partnering with a wide variety of groups to work in coalition on issues such as opposing tar sands oil and fracking, e.g. Coloradans Against Fracking, #NoKXL, & Don’t Frack Denver

– Developing a Moving Beyond Methane coalition campaign to promote alternatives to natural gas because we don’t want fracking anywhere

– Promoting locally-grown organic food, such as: edible landscaping (food forests) in public parks, Community Fruit Rescue neighborhood fruit harvests, a Yards to Gardens program, and public awareness campaigns with partners emphasizing the importance of buying, eating, and growing local food

– Supporting policies to promote clean energy like rooftop solar, wind power, creation of a model renewably-powered municipal electric utility in Boulder, and transition of Denver’s electric generation to renewable energy by 2030

– Promoting fossil fuel divestment by cities, pension funds, churches, universities, other institutions and individuals

– Opposing threats to our democracy, climate and health, such as Fast Track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership, legislative attempts to stymie the ballot initiative process in Colorado, and dirty energy money in politics

350 Colorado Accomplishments

Working closely with partners around the state and across the Nation, over the last year we have achieved many successes including…

– 1st Annual Climate Lobby Day at the State Capitol held in April, 2015

– Local fracking freezes, an amplified call for local control in Colorado, and the launch of Coloradans Againt Fracking in March of 2015

– Fossil fuel divestment campaigns underway at churches, cities, pension funds, and universities across Colorado – Eight Global Day of Divestment actions held around Colorado in February, 2015

– Statewide Climate Leadership Workshop held in January, 2015

– The KXL tar sands oil pipeline was “a done deal” that has now come undone. We have organized dozens of marches, press conferences, petition deliveries, office visits and rallies, such as this one at Sen. Bennet’s office last November, this visibility action when Pres. Obama visited Denver last summer, and actions across the state on a national day of action in January, 2015.

– Through our work with partner organizations, the public coal leasing process is under greater scrutiny resulting in proposed rule changes that will require coal companies to pay a more fair share to the federal government for purchase of coal leases and to states for royalty payments.

– 350 Central Colorado organized a Forum on Climate, Energy, and Building a Resilient Community in Salida, Oct. 2014.

– Approximately 450 people attended solidarity People’s Climate March events in Boulder and Denver, while more than 310,000 marched in NYC on Sept. 22nd, 2014.

– 350CO helped coordinate over 50 Coloradans who travelled to NYC People’s Climate March and raised funds to send 6 youth leaders.

– 350CO organized a Whistle Stop Rally at Union Station in Denver to Celebrate Coloradans and others riding the People’s Climate Train to the People’s Climate March in NYC.

– 350CO worked with The Great March for Climate Action to organize over 300 marchers participating in a rally at the State Capitol, march through downtown Denver, a discussion forum, film screening and fundraiser when the marchers travelled through Colorado last summer.

– In one week, 350 Central Colorado marched in Salida and again in Colorado Springs with The Great March for Climate Action.

– 350 Colorado representatives regularly speak at community events, such as Executive Director Micah Parkin serving as a keynote speaker and panel discussion organizer for the 2014 Bioneers Conference at CU Boulder.
